ShellExView – Utility to Disable or Enable Shell Extensions
Review by on
There is much to like about the Nir Sofer-developed application ShellExView. Let’s take a look at the bits and pieces you are going to like about it.

The first thing you should like about an application is its functionality. With that in mind, one question comes to mind: What can ShellExView do for you? This application is a system utility that displays the details of shell extensions installed on your computer (ShellExView does this immediately after you launch the application). You are presented with a list of shell extensions – from said list you can enable or disable shell extensions.

You can do this in one of three ways. You could for example press the red or green button from the upper left hand corner of the ShellExView window. Select a shell extension and press the red button to disable it; select a shell extension and press the green button to enable it. Or you could right click a shell extension, then select Disable or Enable from the menu that appears. Or, you could use a hotkey – select a shell extension and press F7 to disable it or F8 to enable it.

To start using ShellExView, you must first get the application off the web and install it on your computer. Downloading the app will take very little time as it weighs in at some 120KB. Even on a less than spectacular internet connection, it will only take a moment to get the app off the web and onto your computer. Once the download completes you will find that installing ShellExView takes very little time as well. It must be mentioned here that ShellExView works with all Windows versions, including the latest iteration (at the time of writing this) Windows 7.

Once the installation process is complete, you can use ShellExView to do the bits I mentioned above. The great thing is that you can take advantage of the functionality ShellExView provides without paying anything in return. The application is freeware.

ShellExView is a free, very easy to use app that displays info about shell extensions and allows you to enable/disable shell extensions.

Pros
  • Easy to use
  • Lightweight download size
  • Works with all Windows versions
  • Freeware

Cons
  • None that I could think of
